在一次月底伙食结算的时候，董必武发现账面上有6角钱的开支平不了。为此，董必武十分自责，他对身边的同志说：“我们党的经费来得不容易，每分每厘都是同志们用血汗甚至生命换来的，我们只有精打细算的责任，没有浪费铺张的权力。”之后，董必武执意在办事处大会上作了检查，并亲自向中央写了检讨信。周恩来同志的夫人邓颖超后来谈及此事，感慨道，那时为了6角钱，董老都作了检讨，而现在有的人浪费国家资产几万元、几十万元、几百万元、几千万元都不心疼呀！
